The Hanseatic city of Lübeck is the largest city by area in Schleswig-Holstein.
1987 parts of the old town Altstadtinsel were declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The striking skyline with the seven towers of the five main churches was the key factor among others. There are some recreation areas in Lübeck and surroundings. The swimming pool in the river at the Falkenwiese Freibad an der Falkenwiese is listed as a historic memorial. The excursion boats on the Trave commute between Lübeck and Travemünde. On the river Wakenitz the boats go up till Rothenhusen with connections to the lake of Ratzeburg and the park lakes "Lauenburger Seenplatte" Naturpark Lauenburgische Seen.
Half an hour from Lübeck you find the beach Timmendorfer Strand where you can relax in the Ostseetherme spa or you can watch the local flora and fauna in the Baltic Sea Life Centre .
The Karl-May-Festspiele in Bad Segeberg is a highlight every year and the Hansa-Park in Sierksdorf is the only amusement park on the sea in germany.
